Pussy Riot To Hold Birmingham Benefit Concert In Response To Abortion Ban

Pussy Riot, the Russian feminist rock band, is set to hold a concert in July in Alabama to raise money for pro-choice groups in response to the state passing the nation’s toughest anti-abortion law last month.

Tickets, which start at $20, can be bought here. Proceeds will benefit Planned Parenthood and the Yellowhammer Fund, which provides assistance and support for women in need of abortions.

Pussy Riot gained international attention for its protests in Russia and for speaking out against Putin and discrimination against the LGBTQ community. Some members of the group spent as much as two years in a Russian prison for singing anti-Putin songs at a Russian Orthodox church.

Alabama state legislators last month passed a bill barring abortions at any point of a pregnancy unless the woman’s health is in danger. The bill, which did not include any exceptions for rape or incest, was signed by Gov. Kay Ivey, and is the most stringent anti-abortion law passed in the country.
